The Right Honourable Lord Justice Anthony May
President United Kingdom Society of Construction Law
“The UK Society of Construction Law is proud to host the 2008 International Construction Law Conference in London.
Following the excellent inaugural conference held in Singapore in 2006 organised so expertly by the Singapore Society of Construction Law, the UK Society of Construction Law was delighted to be asked to host the second biennial international conference in October 2008.
This two day conference will bring together leading construction experts from many different jurisdictions to exchange ideas on a wide range of highly relevant topics. The first day focuses on forms of contractual relationship, building information modelling and approaches to the analysis of delay. Issues arising from the management of major international projects span the two days during which an array of speakers from all over the world will give the conference the benefit of their personal experience. The main focus of the second day will be dispute resolution through a provocative examination of the comparative advantages of the main methods used to resolve international and domestic disputes. We are fortunate that so many leading international authorities on these subjects have agreed to lead discussion as speakers and as chairmen of the various sessions.
No less enticing will be the social programme for the conference which will give a great opportunity for participants to meet colleagues from their own and other countries in surroundings which include Tower Bridge with its stunning views of London by night, the award winning 250 year old Brewery, and the Ironmongers’ Hall, home to one of the great Livery Companies of the City of London.
We are honoured to have with us at this conference representatives of the prestigious American College of Construction Lawyers who also offer an additional programme of their own which delegates can attend.
On behalf of the UK Society of Construction Law, I offer you a warm welcome to London and our best wishes for what I am sure will be an outstanding Conference.”
